A new era of growth and vitality began in 1908, with the arrival of the Claretian Missionaries. Following the charism of their founder, Saint Anthony Claret, the Claretians restored, rebuilt, reorganized, and rejuvenated the Mission into new spiritual life. When the Claretians opened a parochial school in 1912, the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose arrived to begin a fruitful service of education at the Mission. In 1949, Mission High School opened to enhance even further our service to the youth of the community.

A special blessing to the San Gabriel Mission over the years has been the rich diversity of cultures and languages present in their community. The grace-filled Spirit of God has been revealed to families as they have constantly strived to be a welcoming parish united through profound faith and service to God’s people. The Eucharist is today celebrated in the English, Spanish and Vietnamese languages, providing the Mission Community with a beautiful opportunity to share at the table of our Lord.

Within ten months, notable improvements, such as landscaping, were made and a site was purchased and cleared for a permanent, new church building.

The Claretians established themselves in the U.S. in 1902, but found themselves without a place to really call home for almost a year. Then right before the year was over the Claretians acquired the property in San Antonio, Texas where they would build their home and dedicate it to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. From 1904-1912, a chapel located in a corner of the Father’s house was the place of worship where Mass was celebrated daily and Mary’s Heart was honored. Work on the byzantine-romanesque church was begun November 27, 1911. The corner-stone was blessed and the parish canonically erected on December 31, 1911. The Most Rev. J.W. Shaw, Bishop of San Antonio, blessed the church on August 11, 1912. Today the Parish of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, in San Antonio, is a beautiful spiritual garden, even if material progress has not kept pace with the spiritual advancement.

The Inter-Provincial Parish of Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza, was established in 2000 by our U.S. Western Province, the U.S. Eastern Province and the Province of Mexico. The parish is in a newly developed section of the large border City of Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, serving mostly families that have migrated to the border in search of employment primarily in the mega-factories employing the poorest of the poor at substandard wages. The ministry of our Claretian Missionaries provides an evangelizing presence to support and assist God's People through small chapels and communities of faith, social services and youth ministry, among many other diverse and prophetic efforts to accompany and serve those in urgent need of the liberating and life-giving Gospel.

Dominguez Seminary educated Catholic priests and brothers for over 50 years. When the Seminary closed in 1974, the adobe was converted to a museum by a man who had come there to study in 1946 and never forgot the place. Father Pat McPolin restored the adobe and retrieved furniture and clothing from the Dominguez descendents to re-create the historic character of the home. Upon his return he also transformed the seminary into a retirement home for Claretian priests
