Our Founder, Saint Anthony Claret
On Thursday, October 26, 2006, Bishop Gabino Zavala ordained our Claretian Missionary Quyen Nguyen, C.M.F., to the Order of the Diaconate. The very beautiful, multilingual celebration took place at San Gabriel Mission, a parish served by our Claretian Missionaries for nearly 100 years, in San Gabriel, California.
Following the completion of his studies at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, Illinois, and his Pastoral Internship Year at San Gabriel Mission, Quyen professed his perpetual vows of chastity, poverty and obedience as a Claretian Missionary Son of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on August 15, 2006, the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Originally from Vietnam, our new transitional deacon is the first perpetually professed and ordained Vietnamese Claretian Missionary.
We celebrate with great joy Quyen's vocation and missionary spirit as he shares in the mission of our Founder, Saint Anthony Mary Claret. On April 12, Quyen returned from Antigua, Guatemala, where he studied Spanish and ministered on weekends in the Parish of Santa Maria de Jesus, served by our Claretian Missionaries of the Central American Province. Additionally, during his stay in Central America, he participated in the ministry of the culturally diverse mission of the Delegation of the United Kingdom in Dangriga, Belize. Quyen is currently preparing for his next assignment, beginning May 12, 2007, with the community of Saint Anthony Claret Parish in Fresno, California. His Ordination to the Priesthood as a Claretian Missionary will take place on August 4 at 11:00 a.m., at San Gabriel Mission.
